Because the company gets $$. That’s all they want to make. They know they made the game good enough to get people addicted. Why not get some $$ out of them and work on something new? Today our economy is going through a lot of crysis. Better save up pennies!

Umm that why you shouldn’t pay for it!

you’re paying for the continuing maintenance and high quality of service that blizzard provides for the game.

they don’t just make the game and leave it, they have a large staff of customer support people and developers to make sure that your questions are answered, bugs are taken care of, and new content is made.

They also have to pay for server costs, to handle all 11 million people who play the game.

it costs alot of money to maintain a MMORPG, why do you think so many free ones don’t last very long?

if you don’t want to pay for it you can create your own private server, but it will only be you and people you invite on it.

and seriously, 15 dollars a month is far from a ripoff, it costs more for a movie ticket and some popcorn.

World of Warcraft will require you to pay a monthly fee; this cost is to pay for servers and staff which costs Blizzard a lot of money. There will be many ways to subscribe to World of Warcraft, mainly through different credit cards.

How large the fee will be has not yet been revealed but it is estimated that the subscription fee will be somewhere between 10-20 USD per month. There will most probably be discounts if you choose to pay for example a full year instead of per month.

Well the people at blizzard are very clever and thought if they made a game and made a really good game that pretty much doesnt end and gets you addicted and you pay for it each month, they would be in the money and its worked, 12 million people are now slaves to blizzard and i’m one of them but dont really care lol. Also to pay for maintaining the game and adding new features like expansion packs and patches.
But you gotta keep it fresh otherwise people just will cancel the subscription but blizzard has kept it fresh for the last 4 yrs.

Without the money we pay them, there will be no more games because they will go broke and will most likely shutdown their company. So we should support them and keep them in business if you want to keep on playing their games…

easy. Bliz knows people are addicted to it. Something does that to it. And they therefore know people will pay hell for it. It’s called greed.

Also, i hope this doesn’t offend you, but i personally don’t like WoW. I can understand why some people like it, but what i don’t understand is how over a dozen people have been killed over it.

Goes back to what i said about addictiveness.

They still have to make the products for the game and pay the bills for the buildings. They have to upgrade the game… They make millions from the users every month. They have to do the Bliiz Cons make tshirts make everything pay there workers… do everything. So summary they pay bills, make merchandise, set up conventions, pay there developers and workers.

Because it costs money to maintain those lovely servers you play on. It’s the very same reason why you buy a phone, but you still have to pay monthly bills to utilize service. For World of Warcraft, you buy the game, but you have to pay to utilize the servers to play online. Millions of players playing on these servers that are continuously up and full of people costs a lot of money to maintain.

Blizzard Entertainment has done a fantastic job of always supporting its player base and don’t think that everything they do is because of greed. They have to work to your expectations or they lose you. Either way, you most likely pay more for your Phone and Monthly Bill than you would ever with World of Warcraft.

Well, reasons are; for one, yeah, to make lots of money, but they also give some pretty great service(means they need to pay their employees), keep adding patches, and helps get the money required to make expansion packs, so they can make more money. Also a lot of the money goes to employees from other games that blizzard makes such as star craft or the new diablo game. WOW basically pays the bills.

First of all , WOW is a extremely huge Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing game. First , the company that created this game had probably 500 – 2000 people working to create the game , when the game released , the people who worked real hard on this game needs their profit , so the company has to pay them for the work they have done.

Second , they need money to pay for the servers / electricity / etc…
That are in their building.

Just think about To on town or Club Penguin , both were created by Disney. Which is a multi billionaire company. They want to get more rich so they can buy more land to put more Disney land areas!

I guess its like a cell phone, TV. You buy it for alot of $$$ then you like it/addicted and you just want more so you pay for it I guess [and I think its the only way they get some $$]

when wow first came out they said if any new expansions came out they would be free.
well once they found out how much of a success it was of course they changed that without a doubt. they gave us the free patches but what the hell normally when a patch came out everyone was pissed cause something awesome as hell got nerfed.

50$ for game.
40$ for each expansion[x2]
and 15$ a month.
i use to play but i already got my full 80 epics which didnt take long at all. i have nothing left to do in the game but stupid achievements. yeah ulduar or w.e the hell its called is coming out but its rumored to be taking away twinks level 1-29.. which takes out the fun after level 80. i guess they are setting the bar for some enchants to be level 30 and higher. everyone got to 80 so fast theirs nothing left to the game. their wont be a new expansion for atleast a year or so. probably longer cause their working on the WOW movie. every huge game dies out after awhile and i give wow like 4/5 years before its the next runescape. them taking away level 1-29 twinks is like jagex taking away the wilderness. well anyways back to the point of the question.
i dont recommend paying 15$ a month. buy a game card. master the game in 2 months and move on with your life. dont let yourself get addicted or theirs no turning back.

i understand why you ask this question and it can be sumed up into a simple answer.

a: blizzard is a company and is into making money.
b: bandwidth usage is a big thing and blizzard goes thru alot with the ammount of servers and accounts they cator to.
c: they have a huge staff that requiers to be paid to keep the game working properly and moderators who help with in game support.

not paying for the game would make it so they cant keep the servers up as they have alot of ppl to pay to keep it running efficantly.

The disk do not cost anything u can buy the 2 month time card which doesnt come with a disk.

You can dowload the game for free online along with all patches AND expansion packs and if you buy the subscription 6 months at a time it is only 12 dollars a month. That isn’t that bad, it’s the price of a decent meal.

Because there are those who will pay. That is the reason. If Blizzards popularity dropped or people lost interest and say 2 Million dropped the game the pricing would change. This game can be played on free servers actually so what you are paying for is crowds and more up to date content maybe. But I have played as a paying player for a years and on free servers for a while. I wont go back to playing the game at all I think for a while maybe never. I have a few free games I like better now.

Well first of all, Blizzard pays for the boardband that you use to connect to the game itself, so that costs money, that’s why you’re paying monthly fees to play.

Well for two months now all the servers instances have been overloaded. That means if you want to run an instance and get blue items so your toon can level faster, you have to keep vampire hours. Which is great for those of you that don’t have to work. What about us that do work and pay for service that we are not getting? this is not a problem that popped up a week ago, Its been going on for 2 months now. That like having cable and paying for all the pay channels and only getting basic cable. Sure Blizz says you had access to your toon for those two months which is true, but I pay them to keep whole game working not just parts. would you pay your cable company for hbo, showtime, starz, ect and only get basic cable? Blizz is not holding up they agreement and stealing money from its customers and not providing a complete service. If they get away with it then the cable compnay will follow suite.
