What is the fighting system on Lost Odyssey?

Do you just press buttons like A=Stab or is it more like Final Fantasy’s fighting system?
i heard it was turn-based like final fantasy
Turn based like final fantasy with the addition of a timed effect system (rings). It’s like FF8’s gunblade trigger for extra damage, only the effects vary based on equipment.
