I don’t really know why a RTS game would have ranks but other games such as COD4 or many other shooters have ranks to show how good you are at playing that game or for COD4 it unlocks guns, perks and challenges. But the only reason why Dawn Of War would have a have a ranking system would be so that others know how good you are at playing.
* TrueSkill rank – that one is independent of race, and can go up and down depending on how well you play, and against who you win and lose. This is also used for matchmaking, so you’ll meet roughly people around your own TrueSkill and will hopefully have fair matches.
* Race ranks – there’s one per race, and it only goes up. Faster if you win a lot, slower if you lose a lot. This rank unlocks cosmetic (no gameplay) upgrades for your troops, so a higher-rank army looks slightly better than a lower-rank one.
Luckily, there’s no mechanic that makes higher-rank players shoot better or have stronger troops. That fits a game like BattleForge, but would be way off target for DoW2.
