In Mass Effect, if i start a new career with the same character?

will i be able to change the "ruthless" reputation, and if possible, how do i change it? also, i got the paragon achievement, but let the councils die. is it better to let them live? i also read that in mass effect 2, it’ll affect the story by your actions in the first game.

   I’ve only played Mass Effect once through, but I know that if you start a new game with an old character, you keep the weapons and gear, but your reputation is reset. I can’t find a very good source, but I came across a post from the Mass Effect forums that mentioned this (see below).

   As for changing your reputation, just do (and say) bad things to get to ruthless and do (and say) good things to get to paragon. Also, I finished by saving the Council, and **SPOILER AHEAD** they reward you by allowing humans into the Council (as opposed to humans simply taking control). I think the main difference is what cutscene you see at the end.

   I haven’t heard anything about ME 2, though.
