How can I improve latency on World of Warcraft with satellite internet?

I play World of Warcraft using my HughesNet Satellite Internet connection. My latencies can be as low as 800ms or as high as 3000ms. Playing from 2000-3000ms is very difficult. Is there anyway to keep the latency around a playable 800 – 1000ms?

Short of upgrading your internet, just make sure there is nothing running in the background. Check your toolbar by the clock and make sure there are no programs trying to run updates (i.e. Java, Anti-Virus). Close out any internet explorers and if you have the authorization, try to monitor other traffic on your internet. Other people sharing it will definitely slow down your connection. You Tube videos are a killer ><

Probably not much can be done. Blizzard recommends checking the satellite companies site to see if they have tips. Blizzards doesnt actually have much to say about it, but you can read it here:

Sorry to say, not a thing…

I tried Wild Blue satellite internet….it sucked for any type of online game play..and I didn’t find that out until I had put out all the money for the equipment and install and I even told the installer that the only reason I was getting it was to play WOW! They also limit your download capacity unless you pay more for higher capacity….all in all, my experience with satellite internet SUCKED!! just in my humble opinion.
