Who Was In The Running?

Out of all the trailers in the running, none can be labeled unrealistic or mundane: our ‘old’ friend Lara makes an unrivaled comeback (and somehow manages to look stunning after 15 years in video games) in Tomb Raider; the devastatingly yet utterly believable The Last Of Us; Dead Island (had it not been for this trailer the game may have gone on noticed); the disturbingly gothic, cryptic Dark Souls and finally, Assassins Creed: Revolutions (epic scenes with flowing narration). So who placed at the top and came out a winner? Incredibly, the video game that may have escaped all of us was saved thanks to its moving and disquieting trailer… Dead Island! Indeed the trailer does reach out and grab you immediately though much of the game itself shows very little of the characters that you are introduced to in the very trailer itself.

What’s New On The Horizon?

Either recently released or eagerly awaited are the following video games thanks to these trailers: the conceptually art filled Bioshock Infinite; reminiscent of Sigourney Weaver’s breakthrough movie, Aliens Colonial Marines (you will recognize Ripley’s former menace immediately); war torn Ghost Recon: Future Soldier; Asian themed and spoken Sleeping Dogs; Dishonored (I’m still amazed at how incredibly realistic these characters appear); and of course Call Of Duty.

In a time filled with so much devastating war and unrest, it surprises me to see games with the same action and realistic horrors and devastation that result from such.
