Does Lost Odyssey get any better than the beginning?

I just passed the 1st boss, the giant gryphon type monster, and I must say, everything in this game is beautiful! That battle was actually pretty fun.
But I don’t understand how a game like this can stay fun when you can’t change the characters armor and the only visible change you can make is to their weapons!? And it seems like the cast animation for most of the spells is the same.
Is it still fun to the end? Cause I’m considering trading it in and getting Mass Effect or Eternal Sonata.

   While I did enjoy Lost Odyssey quite a bit, I’m gonna put my vote down for trading for Mass Effect. I’ve never had a more mind-blowing gaming experience that the final couple hours of Mass Effect…
