Do you have to have 5 characters in formation at all times in Lost Odyssey?

I want to take three people out so I can just play around as Kaim and Seth, but I can’t figure out how. Is there a way to remove someone from the formation?

   i haven’t actually done it, but if you try going to the formation screen you should be able to pick and choose. to remove accessories and rings and stuff it was either the ‘x’ button or by pushing in the stick.

   but honestly i wouldn’t really recommend it. even if you hate playing with the characters or don’t want to waste time attacking since it takes so much longer, i would highly suggest you just defend with those characters so they can level up with you, you’ll be glad about it later.
